One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is getting smiles from kiddos who are determined to keep a straight face. But I know all the tricks in the book! For example, tickle fights, bonking myself in the head, doing a silly dance or even barking. I’m sure I’ve been the source of amusement for many a passerby 😆. And you never know which trick is going to work. For Megan however, it happens to be her favorite song: Hair Up from the Trolls movie. The song does kind of slap in all honesty so I can’t blame her!
I pressed play on my phone and her serious demeanor immediately broke with the first note. A huge grin was plastered on her face as she rocked back and forth clapping her hands. She even gave me a few dance moves! Her sister Rebecca took more joy in Megans reaction than the actual music but she danced along with her all the same.
I had little brothers growing up and never got to know the joy of having a sister but I could see the special bond between Rebecca and Megan. As they sat together trading kisses on the cheek, I got some of my favorite images from the session. They whispered silly secrets into each others ears and got some adorable giggles. Brothers are great but they come with a whole different kind of personality. In that exact spot on the steps I took pictures of brothers looking into each others noses for boogers 😂.
Finally, with the promise of hot chocolate to warm them up after such a cold day outside, Rebecca smiled goodbye and Megan buried her face into her mommas hair giving me her best “you’ve won this round” expression. Similarly, I gave her a little nod of adoration in her straight-faced skill.
