My personal FAVORITE way to dress kids for photos is to dress them like mini adults! I know it’s so hard to resist brightly colored tees with cute phrases, cartoons and glitter but trust me, it’s worth it. Foregoing the glitz will make your photos more timeless, not to mention it will be easier to coordinate outfits for the whole family!
Since women of all ages wear dresses, that’s the easiest way to dress girls like adults! The trick here is to choose a plain dress or a sophisticated print. Of course, kids are still kids and it’s more than ok to accessorize with age appropriate bows, sweaters with a few gems, etc. The name of the game is moderation!
I personally love when little boys wear ties and bow ties but if you’d like a more casual look, layers always look great! My biggest tip for little boys is to pay attention to their shoes. I know that kids grow out of them so quickly but they can really make or break an outfit!
Scarves, sunglasses, vests, belt buckles, hats, boots, necklaces, the list goes on! It’s the small things that add up to make a tiny human look like a grown one.
At the end of the day, how you want to dress your kids for photos is up to you! If your kiddo loves red and will only wear t-shirts with neon green dinosaurs, that’s okay too! I’m here to capture moments and it’s important to also remember to capture reality.
